New plasticizer
A plasticizer is a chemical added especially to rubbers and resins to impart flexibility, workability, or stretchability.
Phthalates have been often used as plasticizers for polyvinyl, polyvinyl chloride, or cellulose resins, with DEHP and DINP being the most important plasticizers globally. However they are defined as contaminants to be controlled hazardous to health and being faced serious restrictions. Adipates, citrates and sebacates can substitue phthalates in many situation, but with poorer performances or higher costs. Esters of 2-ethylhexanoic acid are as economical as phthalates and perform as well in most case, hence can be taken as a good alternatives for phthalates.
Esters of 2-ethylhexanoic acid with polyhydric alcohols such as ethylene glycol, glycerol, 1,3-propanediol and 1,4-butanediol, etc are found to be potential substitutes. triethylene glycol bis(2-ethylhexanoate) and glyceryl tri(2-ethylhexanate) acts even better than DEHP in low temperature.
